While a water line repair can resolve isolated damage to pipes, older pipes with extensive damage may require replacements.
Corrosion is mother nature’s signature
Corrosion is another silent killer of water lines especially common in older homes. This is because water pipes are commonly made from copper or galvanized steel, both of which can corrode over time. If the water has a high mineral content (such as with hard water) or is acidic, corrosion can speed up.
If your water is coming out brown or orange in color, or if you are dealing with recurring leaks, then the culprit might be corrosion. Because corrosion is known to affect large areas at once, a partial water line replacement may be necessary for long-term relief.
Trees are a natural threat to pipes
Tree roots are naturally attracted to water, and they can sense the water running through your pipes. If there’s even the smallest crack in the pipe, tree roots will find their way inside. Over time, these roots can expand and break the pipe entirely.
